When the New York Knicks found themselves down by 29 points in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, most fans probably started thinking about the long flight home. But not Ali Brunson. The wife of Knicks star Jalen Brunson never lost faith—and she had every reason to celebrate when the final buzzer sounded.
Ali took to Instagram after the game to share a post that called the Knicks' performance the "greatest" of all time. And honestly, it's hard to argue. New York pulled off the biggest comeback in Finals history, erasing a 29-point deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs and take a 3-1 series lead.
The Knicks were down 81-52 in the third quarter before flipping the script. Jalen Brunson led the charge with 36 points on an absurd 12-of-15 shooting night. But it wasn't just him. OG Anunoby delivered the two biggest plays of the game: a go-ahead bucket with 1.2 seconds left and a clutch block on De'Aaron Fox in the final minute.
“We know it’s a game of runs,” Anunoby said after the game. “We’re a resilient group. We’ve been through a lot. We’ve come back plenty of times when we’re behind. Just staying with it, weathering the storm, not being too down or angry or frustrated. Just staying with it, cut down to 18, cut it down to six, push it through. It’s a 48-minute game, just play ’til the end.”
The comeback was so stunning that it even prompted Draymond Green to apologize to Jalen Brunson after previously doubting the Knicks. And it reignited comparisons to other historic collapses, like the Spurs' collapse that revived the Falcons' 28-3 nightmare.
For the Knicks, this feels like destiny. The franchise hasn't won a championship since 1973, and Jalen Brunson is on the verge of cementing his legacy as one of the greatest free-agent signings in NBA history. Charles Barkley said it best earlier in the series: “If he’s able to deliver a championship to New York, it’ll be the greatest free agent signing in NBA history.”
Brunson also revealed after the game that he played through the emotional weight of a friend's death, adding another layer to an already incredible story. The Knicks now have a chance to close out the series in Game 5 on Saturday in San Antonio.
If they do, Ali Brunson won't be the only one calling this the greatest performance ever. The entire city of New York will be right there with her.
