Sophie Cunningham is hitting the reset button on her podcast. The Indiana Fever guard has rebranded her show from “Show Me Something” to “No Hesitation,” and she’s got a new co-host by her side. But the shake-up comes after a very public rift with her former partner, West Wilson, over a hot-button issue.
On Thursday, the revamped show was announced, with renowned basketball trainer Drew Hanlen stepping in alongside Cunningham. Hanlen, who has worked with NBA stars like Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal, brings a pure hoops focus to the table. The first episode of “No Hesitation” dropped the same day, promising weekly basketball-centric discussions.
The original podcast with Wilson, a friend from their Missouri days, had been silent for about three months, fueling speculation about its future. Now we know: Wilson is out, and the show is taking a decidedly more basketball-focused direction.
According to Front Office Sports, the new format was in the works for months. Cunningham and The Volume, the network behind the show, wanted something that zeroed in on the game itself. “Drew and I love this sport, we could talk basketball all day. Now we will!” Cunningham said in a statement. “We’ll dive into everything around the WNBA and NBA and can’t wait to share our thoughts. The Volume has been an awesome partner in making that happen.”
But the transition hasn’t been without drama. Earlier this summer, Cunningham made waves with comments about transgender athletes in women’s sports. She told ESPN that it should be “common sense” to bar transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, adding that she wants to “protect young girls in the locker room” and that “they shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
Wilson, who has a platform of his own, responded on TikTok with a pointed rebuttal. “Right-wingers have convinced a massive portion of people in our country that [transgender athletes] are a threat to sports in America, when mathematically that’s not the case at all,” he said. “You’re only isolating transgender people even more by making them seem like this giant group of people is a threat to society, a threat to sports when that’s just not the truth in any capacity. There is like 10 transgender athletes in all of the NCAA.”
The timing of the split is hard to ignore. While it’s unclear if the disagreement directly led to Wilson’s exit, the public clash over such a divisive topic certainly adds a layer of intrigue to the podcast’s sudden makeover.
Cunningham, who is in her second year with the Fever, has been in the spotlight for more than just her on-court play. She’s also been a fashion icon, with her pregame outfits and swimwear snaps regularly going viral. Her pregame style has even sent fans into a frenzy.
Now, with her new show, Cunningham is doubling down on basketball. But the shadow of her past comments and the fallout with Wilson will likely follow her. Whether this is a fresh start or a careful pivot remains to be seen.
