After months of legal maneuvering and personal reflection, former WWE superstar Eva Marie has officially closed the book on her marriage. The 42-year-old confirmed that her divorce from Jonathan Coyle is now final, marking the end of a decade-long union that had quietly unraveled.
Marie revealed that the paperwork was actually completed last August, but the emotional and logistical weight of the split has made it feel like a much longer journey. "It feels like so much longer than a year," she told Page Six, reflecting on the drawn-out process that involved lawyers, selling the marital home in Texas, and a mountain of administrative hurdles.
More Than Just Signing Papers
For Marie, the divorce wasn't just about signing a document. It was about dismantling a life built together. "You have your initial process of filing and then figuring it out. Then you're going through lawyers and all this stuff. So it feels like it's not really surreal to me because I had to also sell the house and do all of these other little things to really solidify on paper that we were technically divorced," she explained.
The former WWE star expressed gratitude that she and Coyle, 44, didn't share children, which simplified some aspects of the split. Still, she has deep empathy for anyone navigating a similar path. "My compassion towards anybody going through it, regardless if you're amicable or not, it's just a lot of stuff that you don't really think about," she added. "Even going through changing my last name was a (expletive) and a half."
A Turning Point at 40
Marie filed for divorce in December 2024 after 10 years of marriage, citing "a combination of many things." But the real catalyst, she says, was a milestone birthday that shifted her perspective. "You only have one life, and you know, with my marriage, we were like business partners," she shared.
She described the relationship as more transactional than romantic. "I really felt like Jonathan and I were doing a disservice to one another because we just had a very transactional business relationship. We got along, we were totally best of buddies, but that's not really what a marriage is, nor should it be, nor is that what I wanted it to be," she added.
Marie's candidness about her divorce resonates with many who have faced similar crossroads. Her story echoes the bitter divorce drama involving another ESPN star, showing that even public figures struggle with the personal side of separation.
As she moves forward, Marie is focused on embracing life on her own terms. The process, while arduous, has given her clarity. "It feels like a weight lifted," she said, though she acknowledges the journey isn't easy for anyone.
For fans who followed her wrestling career, this chapter marks a new beginning. Marie's resilience is a reminder that even after the final bell, there's always room for a comeback.
