The Ultimate Fighting Championship is about to pull off one of the most audacious events in combat sports history. UFC president Dana White has announced that the promotion will give away a staggering 85,000 tickets for a special Fight Night taking place on the White House grounds this summer.
The event, scheduled for June 14, is part of America's 250th birthday celebration. White made the announcement during an appearance on "My View with Lara Trump," revealing that he and President Donald Trump are teaming up to make this an unforgettable experience for fans.
White explained that a temporary arena seating 4,300 spectators will be constructed on the White House property. But that's just the beginning. Tens of thousands more fans will be able to watch the action from the Ellipse, the public park adjacent to the White House.
"If you are a fan of the UFC and especially if you have never been to Washington, D.C., we're going to give away about 85,000 tickets," White said. The tickets will be free, making this one of the largest complimentary giveaways in sports history.
The UFC boss emphasized that only one element could derail the outdoor spectacle: lightning. "If it rains, we're going. If it snows, we're going. The only thing that will stop us is lightning," White stated. He noted that the U.S. military will monitor weather conditions closely in the days leading up to the event.
White admitted that outdoor events make him nervous, referencing his previous experience in Abu Dhabi. "The only time I'd ever agreed to do an outdoor event was in Abu Dhabi… I could be the weatherman in Abu Dhabi and I would be right every time," he joked. But for this historic occasion, he's willing to take the risk.
The announcement comes amid a flurry of White House visits by sports figures. Just recently, the Hoosiers accepted Trump's White House invite after their historic 16-0 title run, while Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza skipped his White House visit to prove himself at OTAs. Meanwhile, White himself has faced controversy, as a UFC legend blasted him for calling the WHCD shooting 'awesome'.
White acknowledged the logistical challenges of staging a major combat sports event outdoors in the nation's capital. "These are all things that we'll be playing with the week of the event on top of all the other things that we will have going on, which we never had to deal with," he said.
Fans eager to secure their spot should prepare for what promises to be a unique night in MMA history. The White House Fight Night is shaping up to be a celebration of both American independence and the sport that has taken the world by storm.
