The First Lady of the United States isn't laughing. Melania Trump is demanding ABC take serious action against late-night host Jimmy Kimmel after he unleashed a barrage of jokes targeting her and President Donald Trump during a White House Correspondents' Dinner parody earlier this week.
Kimmel, who returned to his ABC show days later, mocked Melania's appearance and her relationship with the president in a segment that has now sparked a major backlash. In one line, he quipped, "Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow." He also took aim at their marriage, saying, "Oh, by the way, Melania, this is Donald. Donald, this is Melania."
The comedian didn't stop there. He even made a pointed joke about her upcoming birthday, suggesting she would celebrate "the same way she always does, looking out a window and whispering, 'What have I done?'" The remarks, delivered in a parody of the annual dinner, quickly drew the ire of the First Lady's office.
In a strongly worded statement, Melania Trump demanded Kimmel be pulled from the airwaves, calling his comments "hateful and violent rhetoric" that is "intended to divide our country." She accused Kimmel of hiding behind ABC and called on the network to "take a stand."
"His monologue about my family isn't comedy—his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America," she wrote. "People like Kimmel shouldn't have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate. A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC's leadership enable Kimmel's atrocious behavior at the expense of our community?"
The demand for "massive" punishment comes just days after the actual White House Correspondents' Dinner was interrupted by a shooting, which led to President Trump and Melania being evacuated by the Secret Service. Trump confirmed safety after the incident, but the juxtaposition of Kimmel's parody and the real-life chaos has added fuel to the fire.
This isn't the first time Kimmel has drawn political heat, but the First Lady's direct call for his removal raises the stakes. ABC has not yet responded publicly to the demand, and Kimmel returned to his late-night desk as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, the sports world is buzzing with other headlines, from Kai Trump's terrifying allergic reaction at The Masters to Michael Jordan's big bet on 23XI Racing's Tyler Reddick. But for now, all eyes are on the battle between the First Lady and late-night television.
Whether ABC will cave to the pressure or stand by its star remains to be seen, but Melania Trump has made it clear: she wants Kimmel off the air, and she wants it now.
