The glitz and glamour of the NBA Finals typically come with prime real estate for A-listers, but for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the view apparently left a sour taste. According to a report from gossip columnist Rob Shuter, Markle was none too pleased with the seats her husband was given for the championship series.
As the New York Knicks clinched their first NBA title since 1973 with a decisive 4-1 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, the arena was packed with celebrities sitting courtside—Taylor Swift, Timothee Chalamet, Ben Stiller, and Jerry Seinfeld among them. But Prince Harry was notably absent from that exclusive row, instead sitting about eight rows back next to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
“Meghan notices everything when it comes to image,” a source told Shuter for his Naughty But Nice newsletter. “To her, seating is status. It’s not just about watching a game—it’s about who sees you watching the game.”
The source added that Markle believes Harry, as one of the most recognizable figures globally, should have been placed among the stars, not behind them. “Meghan knows Prince William and Princess Kate would have been offered front-row treatment,” the source said.
The seating controversy comes amid a series of high-profile incidents during the Finals, including ticket restrictions that sparked fan outrage and divided loyalties at Madison Square Garden.
While the Knicks celebrated their long-awaited championship behind Jalen Brunson’s MVP performance, the royal seating drama has added a layer of celebrity intrigue to the series. Markle, best known for her role on Suits, has long been attuned to the optics of public appearances, and this perceived slight has reportedly left her fuming.
For Harry, who grew up in the UK and has become a fixture at US sporting events, the seating arrangement may have been a logistical decision by the league. But for Markle, it was a message—one that she believes undervalues their status in the entertainment and royal spheres.
