Less than a year after saying goodbye to Fox Sports, Joy Taylor is stepping back into the sports media spotlight. On Tuesday, she announced the launch of The Daily Play, a micro-podcast that delivers five to ten minutes of major sports stories mixed with her own takes. The show will air as part of the Urban One Podcast Network.

“I wanted to create something fast, focused, and always authentic. Sports fans are busy, but they want the context behind the conversation. With The Daily Play, I’m giving them what it means and what to watch next—in just a few minutes,” Taylor said in a statement, via Barrett Media. “Joining Urban One allows me to talk directly to a loyal, engaged audience across the country. I’m excited to get back to my radio roots!”

Her History at Fox Sports

Taylor joined Fox Sports in 2016 and spent nearly a decade there, hosting shows like Speak and appearing on Undisputed and The Herd. She left in 2025, several months after being named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by a former FS1 hairstylist. At the time, Fox Sports was undergoing a broad shakeup that saw several high-profile names let go. Taylor has consistently denied any connection between the lawsuit and her departure.

The announcement of her return has drawn a mixed reaction online, with some mocking the timing given recent controversies in sports media, including the Dianna Russini scandal. Still, Taylor seems focused on building something new.

A Fresh Start with Urban One

Urban One is a major player in African American-focused media, and Taylor’s new podcast aims to tap into that loyal audience. The micro-podcast format is designed for busy fans who want quick, opinionated recaps of the day’s biggest stories. It’s a return to her radio roots, where she first made a name for herself before moving to television.

While the reception has been less than warm in some corners, Taylor appears undeterred. If she can carve out a niche with The Daily Play, it could mark a successful second act. For now, fans will have to tune in to see if her new gig lives up to the hype.
