South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is living the dream this fall—no lectures, no textbooks, no finals. Instead, the Gamecocks' signal-caller is trading the classroom for the green, spending his semester on a golf course internship while gearing up for what promises to be a monster season.
Sellers, a sport and entertainment major, has already earned enough credits to graduate in December. So, instead of padding his schedule with electives, he's getting hands-on experience in facility management at a local driving range. Think less "ballroom dancing" (looking at you, Matt Leinart) and more "cutting grass and picking up balls."
“Just facility management and stuff like that, cutting grass and picking up balls like that,” Sellers said, per 247Sports. It's a far cry from the gridiron, but it's a smart move for a guy who's already thinking about life after football.
The news broke via Hale McGranahan on X, who shared: “LaNorris Sellers, who graduates in December, doesn’t have any classes this semester, only an internship at a local driving range.” The tweet sparked a wave of reactions from fans, many of whom were equal parts impressed and envious.
“Stop, this has been a thing forever. Sellers took classes his first 3 years now that he has all the credits he needs. Same 20 years ago matt leinart had all his credits done so he took ballroom dancing his last year,” one fan pointed out, drawing the inevitable comparison to the former USC star.
Others couldn't resist a little humor. “LaNorris If you picked up a random Noodle on the range it’s the one I skulled a mile over the practice green,” joked another fan. And one simply summed up the general sentiment: “These kids are so blessed. Not a bad way to spend fall semester.”
Of course, not everyone understood the arrangement. “How does that work? I thought you had to be a full time student to play sports,” one puzzled fan asked. The answer? Sellers has already met his academic requirements, so he's free to focus on football and his internship without the burden of a full course load.
It's a sign of the times in college athletics, where star players are increasingly able to tailor their schedules to maximize both their on-field performance and their future career prospects. For Sellers, that means honing his craft as one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft class while also laying the groundwork for a career in facility management.
His teammates, meanwhile, are also thinking about their post-playing days. The Gamecocks' locker room is full of guys with diverse ambitions, from coaching to broadcasting to business. You can bet a few of them are taking notes on Sellers' approach.
For now, Sellers is enjoying the best of both worlds: leading a championship-caliber team on Saturdays and perfecting his short game on Sundays. It's a life many would envy, and he's making the most of it.
