As the 2026 college football season looms, NBC has officially named its new sideline reporter for Notre Dame football coverage: Caroline Pineda. The announcement, made just weeks before the Fighting Irish open their campaign against Wisconsin, brings a familiar face and a homegrown passion to the broadcast booth.
Pineda, who earned the prestigious Jim Nantz Award in 2022, has already built an impressive résumé with NBC Sports, covering Major League Baseball, the Big Ten, and the WNBA. But this assignment carries a deeper significance—Pineda is a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
“Everyone who knows me knows how much I love college football,” Pineda told the South Bend Tribune. “I’m so honored and thrilled to get to do more games for NBC. Watching Notre Dame on NBC made me want to be a reporter, and then while I was a student, Notre Dame on NBC taught me how to be a reporter.”
Her excitement is palpable, and she took to social media to share the news: “So many of the best days are college football Saturdays. Can’t wait for more soon!!”
A Dream Realized
For Pineda, this role is the culmination of a journey that began in the stands of Notre Dame Stadium. Her familiarity with the program, combined with her professional experience, makes her a natural fit for the broadcast team. She'll join the crew that brings all the action to millions of viewers each fall.
The Fighting Irish enter 2026 with high expectations under head coach Marcus Freeman. After a solid 2025 season, the team looks to build on its momentum. Quarterback CJ Carr returns after throwing for 2,741 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions last year—numbers that have fans buzzing about a potential playoff run.
Notre Dame's schedule features a challenging slate, starting with Wisconsin on Sept. 6, followed by Rice, Michigan State, and Purdue to close out September. Each game will be a test, and Pineda will be on the sideline to capture every moment.
Pineda's appointment also highlights the growing role of women in sports broadcasting, a trend that has been gaining traction across the industry. Her success serves as an inspiration to aspiring reporters everywhere.
As the season approaches, all eyes will be on South Bend—and on Pineda, who will be living out a dream she's held since her days as a student. For more on college football storylines, check out our overhyped teams analysis and the latest on roster-building trends.
