When the 2026 NFL Draft rolled around, all eyes were on the prospects—but one person off the field managed to steal the spotlight. Emma Bush, the longtime girlfriend of Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, turned heads during the broadcast, adding a touch of glamour to the event as the Pittsburgh Steelers picked Allar 76th overall.
Allar's path to the pros has been anything but smooth. The once-heralded top-10 prospect saw his stock dip after a season-ending ankle injury in October 2025. But the Nittany Lions signal-caller isn't letting that define him. “I’m going to be a better version of myself out of this,” Allar said, citing a surgery that should leave his ankle stronger than before.
His resilience is matched by a strong support system. Allar and Bush have been together since high school in Medina, Ohio, and even though she studied at Ohio State while he played at Penn State, their bond only deepened. Bush was a familiar face during Penn State's 2024 playoff run, and her presence at the Fiesta Bowl went viral. Now, she's making headlines again, this time at the draft.
The Steelers are taking a flier on Allar, hoping to mold him into a franchise quarterback. He'll likely learn behind a veteran—perhaps Aaron Rodgers, if the future Hall of Famer lands in Pittsburgh. But as ESPN's Matt Miller notes, Allar remains a work in progress. “He is a big pocket passer with the anticipation, release and arm strength to throw into tight windows,” Miller wrote. “He was plagued by poor to average performances against top teams, holding a 1-7 record against AP top-10 opponents.”
Still, Allar's college numbers are impressive: 66.5% completion rate, 3,327 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions in his junior year. He led Penn State to the College Football Playoff semifinals before the injury cut his 2025 season short. Now, he's focused on proving doubters wrong.
The draft weekend also saw plenty of drama elsewhere. Shedeur Sanders emerged as a clear winner of the draft, while ESPN's Mike Greenberg faced a social media firestorm after a blunder. But for Allar and Bush, the night was about a new beginning.
As the Steelers bet on his potential, Allar is ready to show he's more than just a draft-day gamble. With Bush cheering him on, the next chapter in Pittsburgh could be something special.
