"I date Shailene, I propose and she says yes. She maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision, she could have said no. But not a couple of days after that, she tells me before we get married like, 'I got to go f--- this guy.' Cause her story is, I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her, but in actuality she told me that and took off the ring by March," Rodgers said, via PEOPLE.
He added, "I proposed in December, took off the ring by March, and we had a couple of times when we tried to get reunited and nothing ever happened, and there wasn't even a relationship in '22 to break off. She literally told me I don't want to be with you."
The timing of these revelations is interesting, especially given that Rodgers is entering what he says will be his final NFL season. He's already shared his plans to start a family with his wife Brittani, and he's made it clear he's ready to step away from the spotlight once his playing days are over.
"I'm hopefully going to be supporting my pregnant wife because we're going to start a family and I am not going to be making a lot of appearances or statements," Rodgers said on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio. "And I'm looking forward to a life of quiet after 22 years in the pros and three in college and getting my body healed up and working on a family. That's what I'm looking forward to."
Before he rides off into the sunset, though, he's got a job to do in Pittsburgh. The Steelers open their season this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, and Rodgers is expected to lead the charge.
