A horrific late-night accident in Florida has claimed the lives of two teenagers and left five others with injuries, casting a pall over the community. The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Cornfield Way and American Farms Road, according to reports.
Authorities say a pickup truck carrying six people was traveling east on Cornfield Way when it collided with an SUV heading north on American Farms Road. The impact sent the pickup careening into nearby trees, causing it to overturn. Two occupants were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victims as a 19-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from Milton. A third occupant, also a 19-year-old woman from Milton, sustained critical injuries in the crash. The other three people in the pickup and the driver of the SUV were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
“It’s a heartbreaking situation for everyone involved,” said a spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol. “Our Traffic Homicide Unit is working diligently to piece together exactly what happened.”
This tragedy echoes other recent devastating accidents, including a Washington high school senior killed in a weekend crash that left three others injured.
Investigators are examining factors such as speed, distraction, and road conditions. The intersection where the crash occurred is not known for frequent accidents, but officials urge drivers to remain vigilant.
The loss of two young lives has sent shockwaves through the Milton community. Friends and family have taken to social media to express their grief and share memories of the victims.
“These were kids with their whole futures ahead of them,” said a neighbor. “It’s just senseless.”
This incident also comes on the heels of other tragic accidents, including the tragic roofing accident that claimed the life of former MLB prospect Brian Kirby at age 46.
As the investigation continues, the Florida Highway Patrol has not released additional details about the cause of the crash. They expect to provide updates in the coming days.
Our thoughts are with the families and friends affected by this devastating event. The community is rallying together to support them during this difficult time.
