Sunday afternoons are supposed to be for touchdowns, tailgates, and family fun. But this NFL season, a new commercial is causing some parents to reach for the remote—and not in a good way.
The upcoming Baywatch reboot, starring Olivia Dunne and Brooks Nader, is set to hit screens in early 2027. To build hype, Fox has been airing promos during NFL broadcasts, and the reaction has been anything but unified.
Some parents are taking to social media to voice their concerns, arguing that the ads, which feature men and women in revealing swimwear, are not suitable for the young fans tuning in for the game.
"Parents of young #NFL fans are concerned about FOX airing Baywatch commercials featuring men and women in revealing outfits. They feel the ads are inappropriate for young children watching football and call them unacceptable," one account posted on X.
Another simply declared, "Inappropriate!"
But not everyone is clutching their pearls. A wave of counter-opinions has flooded the timeline, with many defending the commercial as harmless.
"That was barely revealing and when you take your child to the beach, do you complain to every man not wearing a shirt and every woman wearing a bikini or one piece???? Cmon now!" one fan wrote.
"No one really thinks this. People are just so sensitive these days," added another.
The debate echoes the recent backlash over Halloween costumes deemed too risqué, and comes amid a broader cultural conversation about what's acceptable on network TV. With the show itself slated for broadcast television, the commercials are unlikely to be toned down.
Given that it's 2026 and social media amplifies every outrage, it's worth wondering if this is much ado about nothing. After all, the show will air on network TV, so it can't be that scandalous.
Still, the controversy is a reminder that sports broadcasts are a family affair, and what flies for one viewer might not for another. As the season rolls on, expect more debates—and more Baywatch ads.
