Green Bay Packers icon Ahman Green has gone public with a life-changing health update. The four-time Pro Bowl running back announced this week that he's battling early-onset Parkinson's disease, a diagnosis he received earlier this year.
Green, 49, shared the news during an interview with Tyler Dunne of the “Go Long” podcast, explaining that he was officially diagnosed in January 2025 after noticing troubling symptoms. “I had a little bit of the feet twitching when I'm in my sleep and stuff like that,” Green told Dunne. “I knew something was going on long before that. I just got a hold of some doctors that I was able to get in contact with. Get the diagnostics, get the testing. And finally got it tested.”
The former All-Pro deliberately held off on making his condition public until his inner circle was fully informed. “I didn't share it for a long time because I wanted to let my kids know, my family,” he said. “I let them all know first before I told friends, family, somebody like yourself.”
Green's NFL journey began when the Seattle Seahawks drafted him in 1998, but he truly made his mark after being traded to Green Bay two years later. Over his tenure with the Packers, he amassed 8,322 rushing yards and 2,726 receiving yards, finishing his career with 12,088 scrimmage yards. His stellar play earned him a spot in the Packers Hall of Fame and four Pro Bowl selections.
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of support from fans across social media. One admirer wrote, “Sad to hear. In my opinion he's one of the most underrated backs ever.” Another fan added, “It's sad what has happened to Ahman and CJ2k, prayers for these men. Football definitely comes with plenty of health risks.”
Green's diagnosis is the latest reminder of the long-term health challenges faced by former NFL players. The news comes amid other sobering stories in the league, including the recent passing of former NFL lineman Jordan Devey at 38, which family members attributed to suicide.
As the football community rallies around Green, many are hoping for continued awareness and support for players dealing with neurological conditions. The Packers legend's courage in sharing his story may inspire others facing similar battles to seek help and speak out.
We send our best wishes to Ahman Green and his family as they navigate this new chapter.
