San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones has never been one to air his personal life in public, but during the team's bye week, he decided to pull back the curtain just a little. In a candid appearance on George Kittle's podcast, Jones offered a rare glimpse into his dating life, confirming what many had speculated: he's single and ready to mingle.
Jones, who was previously linked to Sophie Scott during their days at the University of Alabama, has kept his romantic life under wraps for years. Scott was a constant presence during his early NFL career with the New England Patriots, but reports surfaced earlier this year that the couple had called it quits. While the exact timeline of their split remains unclear, Jones didn't shy away from discussing what he's looking for in a partner now.
"I'm attracted to smart, smart, ladies," Jones said on the podcast, offering up his biggest green flag. But when it comes to deal-breakers, the quarterback has a rather unusual one: seafood. "Just don't go to a seafood spot with me," he said. "I'm not allergic to anything, I just don't like it."
Jones's comments come as he navigates a backup role behind Brock Purdy with the 49ers. Despite starting eight games in 2025 and posting solid numbers—completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions—Jones has found himself in a supporting role. Still, he remains a valuable asset for San Francisco, and general manager John Lynch has made it clear that Jones isn't going anywhere.
"I think back to Bill Walsh; maybe he was on to something when he had Joe Montana but he also brought Steve Young in here," Lynch said, referencing the legendary 49ers coach. "It's a good position to be in, a position of strength, and it provides opportunities in a number of ways, the most important way being that you're well insulated in the event something ever were to happen."
Lynch's comments echo the sentiment that having a reliable backup is a luxury, not a liability. And while the trade deadline looms, the 49ers are expected to hold onto Jones, ensuring their quarterback room remains one of the deepest in the league.
For Jones, the focus is on supporting his team and staying ready. But off the field, he's clearly open to finding someone who shares his values—and doesn't mind skipping the shrimp cocktail. As he put it, "I'm not allergic, I just don't like it."
