Kelly Stafford, the wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, is not holding back her frustration with the NFL's scheduling decisions. She took to social media to accuse the league of giving the Rams an unfair schedule, pointing out that the team will not get a traditional bye week this season.
The Rams have shown resilience this season, rebounding from a 2-4 start to get back to .500 before their Week 9 showdown with the Washington Commanders. After that, they'll hit the road to face the Arizona Cardinals, but then comes the real kicker: instead of a normal bye week, they'll play on Thanksgiving Eve against the Green Bay Packers.
That means the team will have a mini-break of just a few days, not the full week off that most teams enjoy. Kelly Stafford, who is known for being vocal about her support for her husband and the team, didn't mince words when she called out the league.
"I had to take a second off my workout because I keep getting updates and alerts like, 'Oh, after the bye week they'll be back, after the bye week he'll be healthy.' Not for the Rams, though, because they didn't get a bye week," she said in a video. "And if you're new to the NFL, a bye week is when they have the week off, so they play Sunday, then they don't play the next Sunday, then they play the Sunday after that."
But she didn't stop there. In a follow-up post, she questioned the league's logic, writing: "Just curious to hear the thought process behind making the Rams the only team in the NFL without a true bye week. Because after 18 years around this league, even I need a week off during the season… and I have never played a single snap. I'm tired just watching from the stands. Can't imagine how the guys feel."
The Rams' schedule has been a point of contention for fans and analysts alike, especially given the physical toll of an NFL season. While some teams get a much-needed rest, the Rams will be pushing through a grueling stretch without that luxury. It's a decision that has raised eyebrows, and Kelly Stafford is not alone in her criticism.
On the bright side for the Rams, help is on the way. Star pass rusher Myles Garrett is set to return to practice, which could provide a much-needed boost to the defense. Head coach Sean McVay remains cautious, saying, "I want to be careful to even set any sort of expectations. I think just taking it a day at a time is going to be the best way that we can approach it. Think that's the right thing for him, and really just to see how he responds. But I think it's a real positive that we're starting his clock."
While Garrett's return is promising, the team will still have to navigate a demanding schedule without a proper break. Wide receiver Davante Adams isn't close to returning just yet, but he could be cleared later in the season. For now, the Rams will have to power through the fatigue and focus on the games ahead.
The NFL's scheduling decisions have always been a topic of debate, and this year's unfair schedule for the Rams is no exception. As the team pushes forward, fans will be watching closely to see how they handle the adversity. One thing is for sure: Kelly Stafford will be right there, cheering them on and calling out any perceived injustices along the way.
