The Kansas City Chiefs are Justin Fields' fourth NFL team in as many years, and if early training camp performances are any indication, this might be his last stop unless he turns things around fast.
Wednesday brought what may be the most head-scratching interception of the preseason, not just from Fields, but from any high-profile quarterback in camp. After taking a snap and dropping back, Fields completely lost track of linebacker Jack Cochrane, who stepped in front of the pass for an easy pick.
Playing His Way Off the Team?
Chiefs fans already anxious about Patrick Mahomes' health heading into 2026 were furious that Fields made such a simple mistake. Many now believe he shouldn't be QB2.

Fields' Rocky Road
The past few years have been brutal for Fields. He played well for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 but was benched after six starts in favor of Russell Wilson. Then he joined the hapless New York Jets, got hurt in Week 2, was benched, injured again, and finished the year on IR.
It doesn't look like things are improving anytime soon. Fields now faces an uphill battle to prove he can still be a reliable backup in the NFL, let alone a starter. The Chiefs' decision to bring him in was a low-risk gamble, but if he keeps making plays like this, he might find himself out of a job entirely.
