The former fighter, who will step into the cage this Saturday against UFC icon Ronda Rousey, opened up about her grueling journey to get back in fighting shape.

Saturday Storm Threat: Giant Hail and 75 MPH Winds to Hammer 5 States
A powerful storm with very large hail and 75 mph winds is targeting five central U.S. states on Saturday. Nebraska and Kansas may face the worst conditions.

In a heartfelt message accompanying the image, Carano detailed her transformation. “Since Sept 2024 to today, May 15, 2026, I have lost 100lbs. It hurts to say that and share but I am going to share it because I worked so damn hard every week for over a year and a half to shed this weight. It did not happen overnight,” she wrote.

She credited the motivation of facing Rousey as a driving force. “If it wasn’t for having this incredibly challenging goal in fighting Ronda Rousey, I most definitely wouldn’t have reached this. I was pre-diabetic, had trouble simply walking in September 2024 and have been on the path to recovery to turn myself back into an athlete since then.”

Carano expressed gratitude to her opponent and her support system. “Thank you to Ronda, who waited patiently while I lost this weight and giving me something to aim for. I thank God, my husband and my family for sticking with and encouraging me the whole way. I pray this encourages you wherever you are in your health journey.”

Fans flooded her post with encouragement. “Incredible job. Thanks for the inspiration,” one commented. Another wrote, “I’ve been working to get into shape myself. While I still have a ways to go I’m already in the best shape I’ve ever been. It truly is a journey and not a destination. We love you Gina. Congratulations.” A third added, “You look beautiful and strong. Rooting for you.”

The fight between Carano and Rousey is being billed as a historic clash of two pioneers. Rousey, who dominated the UFC before back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes, told ESPN, “Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history. This is for all MMA fans past, present and future.”

Carano, who compiled a 7-1 record in Elite Xtreme Combat and Strikeforce, is stepping back into the spotlight after a long hiatus. The bout, sanctioned under the Unified Rules of MMA, will consist of five 5-minute rounds.

Carano’s journey echoes other inspiring transformations in the sports world, such as Trish Stratus igniting nostalgia with a throwback swimsuit snap and Hilary Duff stunning fans with a swimsuit video at 38. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that age is just a number when it comes to achieving fitness goals and returning to elite competition.
