The NFL rumor mill is heating up as training camps near, and one name is generating serious buzz: Stefon Diggs. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, at least five teams have been poking around to see what the veteran wide receiver's status is. After a one-and-done season with the New England Patriots—where he led the team in receiving and helped them reach the Super Bowl—Diggs is now a free agent looking for a new home.
Fowler reported on X that multiple franchises are keeping tabs on Diggs just two weeks before camps open. The 31-year-old posted 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in the regular season, then added 14 receptions for 110 yards and a score in the playoffs. Not bad for a guy coming off an ACL tear and playing only about 55% of snaps.
Diggs himself believes he can be even better. “He feels like he can be even better due to offseason training with no injury concern,” Fowler noted, echoing the receiver's own confidence. Diggs recently boasted on his YouTube channel that he can “compete with anybody” and, even if not a No. 1 option, he'd be the best No. 2 in the league. “You can't name a No. 2 better than me,” he said.
Production vs. Off-Field Baggage
The talent is undeniable. From 2018 to 2023, Diggs racked up 1,000-yard seasons every year and made four straight Pro Bowls with the Buffalo Bills. He was on pace for another monster year in Houston in 2024 before tearing his ACL. But the off-field issues are a different story. Diggs recently went through an assault trial where he was found not guilty, and he's still facing a civil lawsuit from an alleged 2023 incident. That kind of legal noise can scare off some teams, though not all.
Still, for a team looking to add a proven playmaker, Diggs is an intriguing option. His 2025 campaign proved he can still produce at a high level, even while recovering from major surgery. The question is whether any franchise will take the plunge before training camp starts.
As the sports world gears up for the 2026 season, Diggs remains one of the most fascinating free agents on the market. With multiple teams circling, his next move could shake up the NFC or AFC playoff picture. Will he land a deal in time for camp? The clock is ticking.
