The fallout from Dianna Russini’s departure from The Athletic has taken a new turn — and this time, it’s the media that’s getting roasted.
Over the weekend, TMZ Sports released photos and video of the former NFL insider enjoying a cruise with her husband and children. Instead of generating gossip, the move backfired. Fans and media critics alike are calling the coverage unnecessary and bordering on harassment.
“Why are people stalking this woman and her young children on a cruise ship? This isn’t weird to y’all?” asked Ashley Nicole Moss, echoing a sentiment that spread quickly across social media.
Another fan chimed in: “How does TMZ even work? They just hire a million people to stalk every notable person ever?”
The backlash comes months after Russini resigned from The Athletic in the wake of a scandal involving Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. Photos surfaced of the two at an adults-only resort before the NFL league meetings. More images from past non-professional meetups later emerged, leading Russini to step down from her role.
In her resignation letter, Russini wrote: “This media frenzy is hurtling forward without regard for the review process The Athletic is trying to complete. It continues to escalate, fueled by repeated leaks, and I have no interest in submitting to a public inquiry that has already caused far more damage than I am willing to accept.” She added that she refused to let the narrative define her career.
Now, with Russini clearly trying to move on — and both she and Vrabel remaining married to their respective spouses — many are questioning why the media continues to pursue her. A recent police decision to let Russini off with a warning after a traffic stop had already drawn criticism, and this latest episode is fueling further debate.
“This still being a thing when both parties are still married is ridiculous lol. She’s fired, both families have clearly moved on. Like there’s nothing left but projection,” one fan wrote.
Another added: “If he doesn’t care, why should the rest of society? Let these people enjoy their spending time with their kids.”
The incident has also reignited conversations about the line between journalism and stalking. While some argue that public figures forfeit some privacy, others say that relentlessly following someone on vacation with their kids crosses a clear boundary.
For now, Russini has remained quiet about the latest coverage. But the message from the stands is loud and clear: it’s time to let this story go.
