ESPN is doubling down on its college football coverage with a fresh addition to its Friday programming slate. The network announced Thursday that Bussin' & Pate on Campus will debut this fall, bringing together the analytical mind of Josh Pate with the unfiltered energy of Will Compton and Taylor Lewan from the popular Bussin' with the Boys podcast.
The show will follow the College GameDay model, traveling to marquee campuses each week to set the stage for the biggest games of the weekend. Fans can catch the first two episodes on September 4 and September 11, with the premiere airing on ESPN2 from Baton Rouge ahead of the Clemson-LSU showdown. The following week, the crew heads to Ann Arbor for the Oklahoma-Michigan clash, this time on ESPN.
A New Friday Tradition
With the NFL dominating Sundays and Mondays, ESPN has long treated Saturdays as sacred ground for college football. But this new venture aims to extend that energy into Fridays, giving fans a mid-week dose of analysis, humor, and on-campus atmosphere. The show will air at 2 p.m. ET, a slot that could become a staple for viewers gearing up for a full weekend of action.
“Officially, official 👏 ‘Bussin’ & Pate on Campus’ will air Fridays at 2p ET on ESPN during the ’26-’27 college football season 🏈 📍 Sept. 4 | Baton Rouge, La. (Clemson-LSU) | ESPN2 📍 Sept. 11 | Ann Arbor, Mich. (Oklahoma-Michigan) | ESPN / More locations to come!” ESPN announced on X.
Mixed Reactions from Fans
While the show brings together two established brands in the college football media space, early reactions on social media have been split. Some fans are intrigued by the concept, while others remain skeptical about whether the format will translate well to television.
“Can’t tell if this is going to be a good or hard watch,” one user on X replied. Another countered, “I’m good for anything that’s on campus.” A third was less optimistic, writing, “This will be must avoid TV.” But there were also early believers, with one fan pledging, “Investing in this show early.”
Expanding the College Football Portfolio
ESPN already holds near-total broadcast rights to the College Football Playoff, yet its non-Saturday college football programming has been relatively limited. This new show appears to be a strategic move to fill that gap, and it might not be the last. The network has been aggressive in signing popular creators, and Bussin' & Pate on Campus could pave the way for more innovative content.
As the 2026 season approaches, the show's success will likely depend on its ability to capture the passion of college football fans. With big-time matchups like Clemson-LSU and Oklahoma-Michigan on the early schedule, the debut episodes have plenty of juice. Whether it becomes a Friday ritual or a one-season experiment remains to be seen, but ESPN is clearly betting on the star power of Pate, Compton, and Lewan.
