Week 6 of the NFL season is officially upon us, and the pressure is already boiling over for several sideline leaders. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has wasted no time in putting a spotlight on the coaches and coordinators who are feeling the heat the most heading into Thursday night’s clash between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos.

Barnwell’s list of 15 players and coaches under pressure includes three head coaches and two coordinators, each facing their own unique set of challenges. The Washington Commanders’ Dan Quinn finds himself in the crosshairs after a baffling tie against the New York Giants in Week 5. The Commanders had a golden chance to win it in overtime with a game-winning field goal attempt, but a clock management disaster left them with zero points and a 3-13-1 record over their last 17 games.

David Bell, former NFL receiver, sues doctors for $300M, claiming a botched, unnecessary surgery nearly killed him and ended his career.

“Quinn’s team is now 3-13-1 over its past 17 games, with one of those victories coming against the Eagles backups in Week 18,” Barnwell wrote. “Any attempt to draw a line under 2025 as an aberration hasn’t been successful, given that the defense has continued to struggle and Daniels has already suffered another elbow injury in 2026. I thought calls to fire Quinn for the endgame on Sunday were too harsh, but there’s no denying that this is the sort of disaster that lingers in fans’ minds.”

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles is also on the hot seat after a 1-4 start, despite a much-needed upset win over the Dallas Cowboys. The front office expected more from a team that has playoff aspirations, and Bowles’ seat is only getting warmer. The Buccaneers’ struggles have been a talking point all season, and Tampa Bay's 0-2 start had already raised alarms.

Perhaps the most notable name on Barnwell’s list is Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni. Sirianni has tasted Super Bowl glory with a win over the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Eagles’ offense has sputtered this season, and fans are growing restless. The sideline antics and play-calling decisions have drawn criticism, and Eagles fans turning on Sirianni after a London meltdown only added fuel to the fire. If Sirianni can’t get the offense back on track, his tenure in Philly could be in jeopardy.

On the coordinator side, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard is under the microscope. His unit ranks 29th in points allowed per game (29.6) and dead last in EPA per play, according to Barnwell. The return of safety Brian Branch should provide a boost, but the pressure is mounting for Sheppard to turn things around quickly.

Finally, Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is on the hot seat as well. The Chargers rank last in fourth-quarter points per game, and quarterback Justin Herbert has struggled mightily in McDaniel’s system, completing just 59.4% of his passes for 937 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chargers could make a mid-season change, potentially bringing in Adam Gase to replace McDaniel.

With Week 6 kicking off tonight, these five coaches and coordinators will be under the brightest lights. For some, a strong performance could cool the seat; for others, another stumble might be the final straw.
