Dan Dakich has heard enough of the Pat McAfee bashing, and he's not holding back. The former ESPN broadcaster went scorched-earth on Joe Scarborough and the MS Now crew after they took shots at McAfee's role on College GameDay.
Scarborough, who apparently decided Election Day coverage wasn't spicy enough, paused the political talk to unload on McAfee. "I've just had enough of this Pat McAfee ruining 'College GameDay,'" Scarborough said. He then went on a rant about the "manosphere" and complained about McAfee's loud, unfiltered style, suggesting the show was better without him.
That didn't sit well with Dakich. On Wednesday's episode of Don't @ Me, he torched Scarborough and his panel with a blunt assessment.
"Four dudes that know absolutely nothing about football are trying to chime in on social events that football people are talking about," Dakich said. "They look like idiots."
Dakich's takedown wasn't just hot air — it came with receipts. ESPN announced that College GameDay averaged 2.5 million viewers last Saturday from Indiana. Overall, this season's ratings are up more than 4% compared to last year. McAfee's impact isn't limited to Saturday mornings, either. ESPN revealed that Monday Night Countdown is pulling its highest viewership in a decade, averaging 1.6 million viewers per show — a 26% jump from last season.
The numbers tell a different story than the critics. While Scarborough and company complain about McAfee's antics, fans keep tuning in. That's a trend that echoes the broader backlash over McAfee's criticism from media figures who rarely watch the sport.
Dakich's defense of McAfee isn't just about loyalty — it's about calling out people who don't understand the product they're trashing. As the ratings show, McAfee is far from ruining College GameDay. If anything, he's helping it thrive.
For now, the debate rages on, but Dakich made one thing clear: if you're going to criticize football, you better know the game. Otherwise, you might just get called out by someone who does.
