Dan Dakich is not holding back. The longtime college basketball analyst and radio host went on a blistering tirade Wednesday, taking aim at Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White over her pregame comments that he believes missed the mark entirely.
White, in her pregame address ahead of a recent matchup, spoke out against what she called "outside forces" creating "narratives that simply don't exist" in the WNBA. She emphasized her commitment to player safety and relationships, but Dakich saw it as a deflection—especially after a flagrant foul left Fever guard Sophie Cunningham on the floor.
Dakich: 'You Always Lead with Defending Your Players'
Dakich, who played at Indiana University, didn't mince words when reacting to White's comments on his show. He argued that any coach worth their salt would immediately defend a player who's been knocked down by a flagrant foul, not talk about online narratives.
"Somebody knocks your player on their (butt) with a flagrant foul, and if you are in a situation where the media will ask you about it, you always lead with defending your players," Dakich said. "That is not what Stephanie White did. That is not what Stephanie White does, but she claims that she does."
He went further, labeling her a "minor league coach" and questioning her judgment.
"Again, this is why you are a minor league coach," Dakich continued. "This is why you don't need to see it, honey, you don't. You don't need to see it. You simply need to know that your player got clotheslined, and you come in, and you defend your player."
Dakich also referenced a separate incident involving Alyssa Thomas, suggesting White's failure to defend her players is a pattern.
'The Dumbest Coach I've Ever Seen'
Dakich's frustration boiled over as he delivered a scathing verdict.
"Oh man, she is the dumbest coach I've ever seen," Dakich said. "Love, grace, humility, integrity… and you can go to hell if you don't love grace and integrity? She is the dumbest human being to ever coach a professional sport."
White's pregame comments came amid a turbulent stretch for the Fever, who have faced intense scrutiny from fans and media alike. The team's recent struggles have only amplified the noise, and White's attempts to address it may have backfired.
