The Dallas Cowboys are once again the center of trade buzz, and this time it's Maxx Crosby talk that has the fanbase buzzing. After a quiet period, the rumor mill is churning again, thanks to a fresh promise from Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones.
Appearing on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, Jones suggested that reinforcements are on the way for new defensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's unit. "We've got several things that we're considering right now, some of it trades, some of it signing guys," Jones said. "A lot of these older players who have still got some tread on the tires can come in here and help you. It may come in the form of a trade, it may come in the form of a veteran signing as you move into camp."
That vague-but-tantalizing statement was enough to send Cowboys fans into overdrive. The speculation is understandable: ESPN previously reported that Dallas offered a 2026 first-round pick, a future second-rounder, and a veteran player for Crosby before the Raiders' failed trade with the Baltimore Ravens. While those talks cooled, Jones' comments have reignited hope that a blockbuster could still happen.
On social media, the reaction was immediate. "The more I think about the effects a Maxx Crosby addition could have for the Cowboys, the more I see how it could help the team, right now," one fan posted. Another speculated, "My guess is he's weighing between Maxx Crosby and Josh Sweat." A third simply wrote, "Maxx Crosby would look so good in a Cowboys jersey."
Crosby would indeed be a game-changer for America's Team. With 69.5 career sacks and 164 quarterback hits, the Raiders' defensive end is a proven disruptor who could instantly elevate a defense that has struggled to pressure opposing passers.
But if Crosby isn't the target, Jones' comments suggest other avenues. One name that fits the "tread on the tires" description is Von Miller, the 37-year-old pass rusher who spent 2025 with the Washington Commanders. Miller, an eight-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl MVP, recorded 26 tackles and nine sacks last year—not All-Pro numbers, but still solid production for a veteran.
Another option could be Bobby Wagner, the veteran linebacker who remains a free agent after a 2025 season with 162 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four pass breakups, and two interceptions. Wagner would add leadership and tackling prowess to the middle of the Cowboys' defense.
Whatever Jones has in mind, the clock is ticking. Dallas opens the season against the New York Giants in Week 1, and fans are hoping for a splash before then. The team's overhauled practice approach under Schottenheimer has already signaled a shift in mentality, but adding a star like Crosby would be the ultimate statement.
As the speculation swirls, one thing is clear: Cowboys fans are hungry for a winner. With Jerry Jones feeling the heat in what could be a make-or-break season, a move for Crosby would be a bold declaration that Dallas is all-in.
For now, we wait. But if Stephen Jones' words are any indication, something big could be brewing in Big D.
