The Denver Broncos are on a roll, sitting at 6-2 after a thrilling overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs. But that success hasn't stopped them from trying to get even better. With the trade deadline looming on Nov. 10, the Broncos are clearly looking to add firepower, and they've set their sights high—maybe too high.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Denver recently checked in on Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. The request was described as "ambitious" and even "outrageous" by some. It's not hard to see why. McBride, a Colorado native and former Colorado State standout, is having a monster season: 66 catches, 544 yards, and five touchdowns in just eight games. He's an All-Pro, and he's locked up on a four-year, $76 million contract that runs through 2029. The Cardinals, who are still in the playoff hunt, made it crystal clear that McBride isn't going anywhere.
That rejection didn't deflate the Broncos, though. They've simply moved on to other targets. Jonathan Jones of The Athletic reports that Denver is among the teams interested in Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. The Colts have already turned down an offer of a second and fifth-round pick from an unnamed team, which shows they're not eager to part with their star back. Taylor, a three-time Pro Bowler, has rushed for 610 yards and eight touchdowns this season, and he'd instantly upgrade a Denver ground game currently led by rookie Jonah Coleman.
The Broncos' offense has been a mixed bag this year. Quarterback Bo Nix has shown flashes, but the supporting cast has been inconsistent. Adding a player like Taylor would take some pressure off Nix and give the offense a reliable workhorse. But the cost might be steep, and the Colts aren't exactly begging to trade him.
Meanwhile, the tight end position remains a need for Denver. The team reportedly checked in on other tight ends around the league, but McBride was the dream target. With him off the table, they might have to settle for a less flashy option or stick with what they have. The recent quarterback moves around the league show that teams are willing to shake things up, but the Broncos might have to be patient.
As the deadline approaches, the Broncos are clearly in "win-now" mode. Their defense has been solid, and the offense is just a few pieces away from being truly dangerous. Whether they can land Taylor or another playmaker remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Denver isn't afraid to dream big.
For now, Broncos fans can only hope that their front office's ambition pays off. The trade buzz around Taylor continues to grow, and Denver is right in the middle of it. If they can pull off a deal, this team could be a serious contender in the AFC. If not, they'll have to rely on their current roster to keep the momentum going.
Either way, the Broncos have made it clear that they're not satisfied with just being good. They want to be great, and they're willing to take risks to get there.
