The recruiting landscape for the Class of 2027 is already turning heads—and not just because of the talent on the field. According to a new report from On3's Pete Nakos, some of the nation's top high school football prospects are making jaw-dropping demands that go far beyond a scholarship.
We're talking seven-figure guaranteed offers straight out of high school. Multi-year deals that would make some NFL rookies jealous. And in one case, a prospect asked for a sauna to be built at his parents' house. Yes, a sauna.
Seven of the top 15 recruits in 247Sports' rankings for the 2027 class remain uncommitted, meaning the bidding war is just heating up. Programs across the country are scrambling to secure commitments from these blue-chip athletes, but it's no longer just about facilities or playing time. NIL has turned recruiting into a high-stakes negotiation.
Nick Saban, the legendary former Alabama coach, has seen enough. He recently told Paul Finebaum that the current system is broken. "One team shouldn't have a $40 million roster and another team have a $5 million roster, and they're out there playing each other," Saban said. "Every league, NFL, basketball, hockey—they all have a salary cap or something that creates parity."
Saban also pointed out that tradition no longer guarantees success. "The best traditional jobs are no longer the best traditional jobs. The people who have the most money have the best opportunity to win."
This isn't just a college football problem—it's a reflection of how the entire sports world is evolving. Tech titans like Mark Zuckerberg and Paul Allen have been linked to bids for the Seahawks, as reports differ on their interest. Meanwhile, NFL sideline reporter Jenny Dell turned heads with a fiery swimsuit snap that went viral. The lines between sports, business, and celebrity have never been blurrier.
For now, college football programs must decide how far they're willing to go to land a 17-year-old star. Will a sauna become the new signing bonus? Only time will tell.
