In a statement released by his family, they painted a picture of a young man whose impact stretched far beyond the gridiron. “Deejay was a pillar in many communities throughout King County from Tukwila and Federal Way to Auburn and all the way to Graham. His energy, light and infectious presence reached far beyond what we, as his family, even realized. Now in the midst of such a devastating tragedy, we are seeing just how many lives he touched and how deeply it has impacted all of these students and their families,” they shared.

The family also highlighted his dedication to both academics and athletics. “Deejay was a student-athlete who prioritized both his academics and athletics. He was an empath who genuinely cared for everyone whether it was his first time meeting you or he’d known you for a while. We are truly grateful for those that have reached out, shared a memory or photo, shown up to the vigil or spoken life into who Deejay was as a person in their post.”

They added, “Seeing the love and support he poured into others come full circle with the outpouring of love from the community is truly a blessing.”

Deejay’s lineage in football is storied. His grandfather’s brother, Manu Tuiasosopo, was a first-round pick in the 1979 NFL Draft and won a Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers. Manu’s son, Marques Tuiasosopo, was the 2001 Rose Bowl MVP and enjoyed an eight-year NFL career as a quarterback. The family’s deep roots in the sport make this loss all the more poignant, as the community rallies around them.

The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief from teammates, classmates, and the wider football community. Vigils have been held, and social media is flooded with tributes celebrating Deejay’s vibrant personality and the joy he brought to those around him. His death serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving, a message that resonates especially hard in the sports world, where NFL legends have also been mourned recently.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, the Tuiasosopo family is left to navigate an unimaginable loss, supported by a community that loved their son dearly.
