The Golden State Warriors are cooking up something massive. According to a new report, the franchise is setting its sights on a superstar haul that would shake the NBA to its core: LeBron James and Anthony Davis alongside Steph Curry.
Fresh off a disappointing 2025-26 season, the Warriors are desperate to squeeze one more championship window open while Curry still has elite juice. Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor dropped the bombshell, citing multiple league sources who say Golden State is actively pursuing a trade for Washington Wizards big man Anthony Davis and then signing free-agent forward LeBron James.
“The Warriors are attempting to trade for Wizards big Anthony Davis and then sign Lakers free-agent forward LeBron James, according to multiple league sources,” O’Connor reported. “A trade for Davis would have to include Jimmy Butler, who is on an expiring $57 million contract while recovering from a torn ACL.”
The deal would also require significant draft capital. Golden State has two future first-round picks and four first-round swaps to dangle, giving them the ammunition to make it happen. But the real masterstroke? Using Davis as the bait to lure LeBron north.
“Sources say the Warriors hope adding Davis would help lure LeBron from Los Angeles to the Bay Area once free agency officially opens Tuesday,” O’Connor added. “The pitch would be simple: reunite with AD, team up with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, play for Steve Kerr, and chase one more championship with a roster of legends.”
LeBron and Davis already have a ring together from their 2020 bubble title with the Lakers. That chemistry could be the key to convincing King James to leave Hollywood for the Bay. And with draymond green's recent antics already fueling speculation, this rumor feels like more than just smoke.
The Warriors would essentially be forming a Mount Rushmore of modern NBA talent. Curry, LeBron, Davis, and Green — all future Hall of Famers — on one roster. It's a dream scenario that would instantly make Golden State the title favorite, assuming health and fit align.
Of course, there are hurdles. Butler's injury and expiring contract complicate the trade math, and LeBron would have to willingly leave the Lakers. But with free agency looming, the NBA summer could get wild in a hurry.
