Tiger Woods has emerged from a six-week rehab program with a clear new priority: supporting his girlfriend Vanessa Trump through her battle with breast cancer. The 15-time major champion, who was arrested on DUI charges in March, has reportedly put his own legal and medical struggles on the back burner to be by her side.
Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI with property damage on March 27 after a rollover accident in Martin County, Florida. Authorities found pain pills in his pocket at the scene. Less than a week later, he announced he would step away from golf to seek treatment.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” Woods said in a statement. “This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
He reportedly traveled to Switzerland for a three-month rehab program, but his stay was cut short due to Trump’s health situation. She was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, and Woods flew back to support her and attend her daughter Kai’s high school graduation.
“Tiger flew back to take care of some things and offer support to his girlfriend Vanessa’s health issues as well as to be here for her golfer daughter Kai’s high school graduation,” an insider told People Magazine. “He is a family oriented guy and nothing has changed.”
People Magazine reported that Woods is now focused on Trump’s recovery. “Vanessa’s needs and issues have taken Tiger’s thoughts outside of his own legal, medical and personal struggles, which has been good for him,” an insider said. “He has given her a lot of love — even while away working on himself. It shows he has character.”
Woods still faces legal scrutiny. Florida prosecutors are seeking to subpoena his medical records related to the DUI arrest. Despite the challenges, reports indicate he remains determined to return to golf, though he hasn’t played since the 2024 Open Championship.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp voiced support when Woods first stepped away. “Tiger Woods is one of the most influential figures the sports world has ever known,” Rolapp said. “My thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step, for which he has my full respect and support.”
For now, Woods’ comeback appears secondary. As he navigates family obligations and legal hurdles, his focus remains on Trump’s health. Whether he’ll return to the course remains to be seen, but his determination to return is clear. Meanwhile, Kai Trump’s golf career continues to blossom, adding another layer to the family story.
