Forget the Super Bowl—this summer, Madison Square Garden is set to host the biggest event in New York City, and it has nothing to do with basketball or hockey. According to reports, pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are renting out the iconic arena for their wedding celebration, and they're not just using it for one night.
Sources tell TMZ that the power couple has booked MSG for at least three days, starting with an intimate rehearsal dinner on July 2 and culminating in a wedding ceremony on July 3. The guest list is reportedly between 1,100 and 1,200 people, and the couple is going to great lengths to keep things under wraps—communicating with invitees via text instead of physical invitations.
The New York Post reports that the couple has even filed a permit to close the streets around Madison Square Garden on their wedding day. The permit, filed by Winick Productions in June, requests street closures and a public tent set up outside the venue to accommodate 500 to 999 attendees. A source told Page Six that Kansas City Chiefs players have made reservations at the Marriott Marquis in Midtown around the wedding date, adding to the speculation that this will be a star-studded affair.
But the festivities kick off the night before. The Post confirms that the rehearsal dinner on July 2 will be a more intimate gathering, with only 100 close family and friends in attendance. That likely includes Kelce's father, Ed, who recently went public with a new romance and has been showing off his girlfriend ahead of the big day.
Renting out Madison Square Garden doesn't come cheap. According to Darren Olarsch, founder of On The Move Entertainment, a wedding that might cost $300,000 elsewhere could easily run $3 million inside the Garden. But for a couple with a combined net worth in the hundreds of millions, it's a price they're willing to pay for privacy and spectacle.
Initially, there were rumors that the couple would tie the knot at Swift's $17 million Rhode Island estate. But TMZ's report shifted the narrative to MSG, and the New York Post has since confirmed the venue booking. The wedding is scheduled for July 3, and with all the planning underway, fans won't have to wait long to see if this blockbuster event becomes a reality.
Interestingly, the wedding plans come on the heels of Patrick Mahomes missing Kelce's bachelor bash, which raised some eyebrows among Chiefs fans. But it seems Kelce is focused on the main event now.
As for the venue itself, Madison Square Garden has seen its share of drama recently, including an NYPD investigation into a fatal fall at a concert. But for Swift and Kelce, it's all about celebration. With street closures, a massive guest list, and a multi-day rental, this wedding is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about events of the year.
