Steph Curry isn't leaving anything to chance. With LeBron James set to hit free agency after opting out of his Lakers deal, the Golden State Warriors' superstar is rolling out the red carpet—and a set of golf clubs.
During an appearance on Good Morning America, Curry laid out his official recruiting pitch for the 41-year-old legend. And it's a blend of basketball bliss and Bay Area perks.
“We know how to win, beautiful weather, great golf… I know he’s into that,” Curry said. “But like you said, the USA experience that we had, the battles that we had over the years, we just know how to play basketball. And I think that he’ll enjoy just the idea of what it means to finish your career the right way.”
Curry’s reference to their time together on the 2024 Olympic team in Paris is no accident. That gold-medal run showed the world—and LeBron—just how dangerous the duo can be when they share the court. Add Draymond Green and Steve Kerr to the mix, and you've got a familiar, winning environment.
The Warriors emerged as a top suitor the moment LeBron informed the Lakers he wouldn't be returning for the 2026-27 season. NBA insider Nick Friedell believes Golden State can offer the “basketball happiness” James craves.
“He’s got a chemistry with Steph. He knows Draymond for all these years. He knows what Steve Kerr’s all about,” Friedell said. “The Warriors… let their players be who they are. Look at Jimmy Butler.”
But the Warriors aren't alone in the sweepstakes. Shams Charania recently named the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers as primary contenders. “He’s made it clear he wants to be a part of a team where he has a chance to compete for a championship,” Charania said.
At 41, LeBron still averaged 20.9 points and 7.2 assists per game last season. He's clearly still got plenty left in the tank, and his final destination could reshape the NBA landscape.
Curry, for his part, is embracing the speculation. “He knows what he wants, and eventually he’ll make that decision. It’s totally up to him,” Curry said. “But we’re having fun with it, knowing that he’s got his pick of the entire league, wherever he wants to go, to be honest.”
Whether LeBron ultimately chooses the Warriors or another contender, one thing is clear: the chase for basketball happiness has never been more intriguing. For now, the Bay Area is making its case loud and clear.
