Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is making headlines for more than just his arm. The second-year signal-caller took time away from the gridiron this week to give back in a big way, visiting two public schools in East Cleveland and handing out 500 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to eager students.
Per Camryn Justice of News 5 Cleveland, Sanders made stops at Kirk Middle School and Caledonia Elementary, where he not only distributed the backpacks but also dished out free Pizza Hut and Pammy’s Ice Cream, signed autographs, and shared words of wisdom with the kids. For Sanders, the choice of location was deliberate.
“I chose two schools in East Cleveland because I like going to different places a lot of people wouldn’t go and showing a positive side of things because if you just look online, you only see the negativity about parts of East Cleveland and different parts of Cleveland,” Sanders said, via Bleacher Report.
Recognition from the NFLPA
His efforts didn’t go unnoticed. On Friday morning, the NFLPA named Sanders the Week 3 Community MVP, a prestigious honor that comes with a $10,000 donation to his Legendary Impact Foundation. The award celebrates players who make a tangible difference in their communities, and Sanders’ latest initiative certainly fits the bill.
“I truly believe in perfect timing, and being named Community MVP means a lot,” Sanders said. “What matters most is those kids knowing they are seen, they are heard and they are felt. If that gives them a little more motivation to keep showing up, then we did our job.”
A Role Model On and Off the Field
Sanders, selected 144th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, has already shown flashes of promise on the field, but it’s his off-field character that’s earning him widespread praise. His commitment to uplifting underserved communities echoes the approach of his father, Deion Sanders, who has long been an advocate for youth empowerment. The gesture also comes at a time when Browns fans are eagerly debating the team’s quarterback situation, with some calling for Sanders to take over the starting role.
While the on-field competition heats up, Sanders remains focused on making an impact beyond the stadium. His visit to East Cleveland is just the latest example of his dedication to service, and it’s clear that he’s using his platform for good.
“Kudos to Sanders for being a true role model in the Cleveland area,” wrote Justice, and it’s hard to argue with that sentiment. In a world where athletes are often criticized for being out of touch, Sanders is proving that a simple act of kindness can resonate far beyond the classroom.
For the students at Kirk Middle and Caledonia Elementary, the day was about more than just free supplies—it was a reminder that someone believes in them. And for Sanders, that’s the ultimate victory.
