The Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders are both undefeated heading into their Week 4 showdown, but there's more than just a perfect record on the line. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has a chance to make history at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Reid currently holds a 6-1 record at the Raiders' home turf, a mark that includes a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. That ties him with former Raiders coaches Josh McDaniels and Antonio Pierce for the most wins at the venue. A victory on Sunday would give Reid sole possession of that record, an achievement that seemed almost unfathomable when the stadium opened just a few years ago.
When informed of the milestone this weekend, Reid brushed it off with his trademark dry humor. "I didn't know that and I don't really care," he told reporters with a laugh.
Despite the Chiefs' 3-0 start, they haven't received the same level of praise as in previous seasons. A win over a surging Raiders team could change that narrative. The Raiders, led by quarterback Kirk Cousins, have been one of the league's surprise packages, and they'll be eager to protect their home field.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes expects a hostile atmosphere in Las Vegas, reminiscent of the Raiders' old Oakland days. "I wouldn't be surprised if it's a very hostile environment, trying to take it back to those Oakland Raiders days," Mahomes said. "I'm excited just for the challenge. They've been playing great football, you can see it on tape. That 3-0 record's real. They've been playing great the entire season and, for us, it's another step, another challenge we have to go up there and match."
The rivalry between these two teams has been intense, with Mahomes recently praising Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, a player he considers among the best in the league. The Chiefs will need to contain Crosby to keep their offense rolling.
This matchup has drawn national attention, with CBS sending its top broadcast team of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo to call the game from Sin City.
Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET, and all eyes will be on Allegiant Stadium to see if Reid can add another chapter to his Hall of Fame career.
