Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has finally addressed the civil lawsuit that has cast a shadow over his offseason. The star pass-catcher, who led the NFL in receptions last season, spoke to reporters Thursday, thanking the organization and his teammates for standing by him during a turbulent time.
“I’ve been really grateful for the support from the organization, especially my teammates,” Nacua said. “People reaching out at different times of the offseason, just checking in. … Some of the things I feel like I’ve learned is it’s OK to ask for support and then to recognize the platform that I have and being a professional football player and trying to use that for the betterment of myself and for those around me.”
The lawsuit, filed by a woman who alleges Nacua bit her and made an antisemitic remark, has drawn significant attention. While Nacua declined to discuss the specifics of the case, his attorney has previously denied the allegations “in the strongest possible terms.”
This isn’t the only controversy swirling around the NFL this offseason. In a separate incident, C.J. Stroud silenced haircut drama by insisting he was fine, not depressed, showing how quickly narratives can spin out of control in the league.
Nacua also revealed that he has been using the offseason to attend rehab and therapy, focusing on his mental health and personal development. “There’s been a lot of good things in the midst of some of these things that have been challenging for me, but it’s been a great improvement in my life,” he said.
The wideout enters the final year of his rookie contract, making him a potential free agent after the season. Despite the uncertainty, Nacua isn’t letting contract talks distract him. “I know that my job is to come up here and to be with the guys and go out there and compete every single day and that’s been kind of my mindset,” he explained. “If I can continue to improve as a person, I know that the coaches and the people around me are helping me improve as a football player. So those are the things that I can control and then hopefully allow those other things to handle themselves.”
Nacua’s 2025 campaign was nothing short of spectacular. He led the league in receptions, earned Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors, and helped propel the Rams to the NFC Championship Game. His ability to block out off-field noise and focus on football will be critical as Los Angeles aims to build on that success.
The situation echoes other NFL controversies where players have had to navigate legal issues while maintaining their professional focus. For instance, Schefter broke down Rashee Rice's jail time and what it means for the Chiefs, highlighting how off-field matters can impact team dynamics.
As Nacua prepares for the upcoming season, he seems determined to let his performance on the field speak louder than any allegations off it. With the support of his teammates and a renewed commitment to personal growth, the Rams’ star receiver is ready to move forward.
