New York Knicks fans arrived at Madison Square Garden more than two hours before tipoff for Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals, expecting a celebration. Instead, they walked into a logistical nightmare.

Photos circulating on social media capture what fans are calling a 'massive' line problem outside the iconic arena. President Trump's attendance prompted heightened security, but the rollout has been anything but smooth.

ESPN's Computer Model Picks Spurs to Bounce Back in Game 5 After Knicks' Epic Comeback
ESPN's computer model favors the Spurs to win Game 5 at home after the Knicks' 29-point comeback in Game 4. Can San Antonio bounce back?

One fan told reporter Darren Rovell that police routed the crowd to 34th and 8th, funneled them through metal detectors, then apologized and redirected everyone to 34th and 7th. From there, another set of officers sent them to 32nd and 6th.

'There are hundreds, if not a thousand people, wandering around in giant herds not knowing where to go or how to get in,' the fan said. 'The police keep saying they don't know the protocol.'

The confusion even extends to the New York City Police Department, with officers reportedly unsure about the entry process. Bars near the arena have been boarded up, and sanitation trucks are being used as barriers.

Meanwhile, NBA reporters are facing their own challenges. Spurs reporter Matt Guzman described the security checks as 'crazy,' noting that Secret Service is handling entry for both fans and media.

'My iPad died, and they made me plug it in to prove it turned on,' Guzman shared. 'Opened my Airpods cases and even flipped through my book to see what was in between the pages.'

The chaos comes on the heels of Secret Service scrapping a Knicks fan party outside MSG for the president's visit, adding another layer of frustration for fans who had planned to enjoy the pregame atmosphere.

With thousands of fans still stuck in the confusion, the game's start time looms. Whether everyone makes it inside before tipoff remains an open question.
