Notre Dame fans, get ready to fire up the Peacock app again. NBC Sports has confirmed that the streaming service will host an exclusive Fighting Irish football game every season under their current agreement, including the 2026 campaign. That means at least one Notre Dame contest will be locked behind the streaming paywall — and only available to Peacock subscribers.

According to Awful Announcing, an NBC representative stated: “We will continue to have one Peacock exclusive Notre Dame Football game each year of our agreement, including this season. We’ll have more information on this year’s game soon.” The network hasn’t yet revealed which 2026 matchup will get the streaming-only treatment, but the announcement has already sparked plenty of debate among the Irish faithful.

There’s a silver lining, though. Unlike the 2024 Louisville game — which was a home contest at Notre Dame Stadium — the 2026 Peacock-exclusive game will be played on the road. That’s a small consolation for fans who prefer not to hunt for a streaming login just to watch their team. Seven of Notre Dame’s 12 regular-season games in 2025 will air on NBC’s main channel, including all six home games, so the bulk of the schedule remains easily accessible.

So which road trip might land on Peacock? The most obvious candidate is Purdue. The in-state rivalry has deep roots, and last year’s matchup at Ross-Ade Stadium was partially streamed on Peacock. If NBC wants to lean into tradition, that’s the logical choice. But there are other intriguing options. North Carolina could be a draw if Bill Belichick is prowling the sidelines by then — a storyline that would surely boost ratings. Navy, with its neutral-site game, and BYU also lurk as potential sleepers. The only contest that seems unlikely is the season finale against Syracuse.

The Peacock-exclusive arrangement mirrors a broader trend in sports broadcasting, where streaming platforms are increasingly snatching up premium content. It’s a move that has frustrated some fans, as seen in recent Cavaliers fan backlash over a Peacock playoff game. But for Notre Dame, the trade-off is a hefty dose of primetime exposure on NBC.

Speaking of primetime, the Irish are set to shine under the lights in 2026. Four games already have primetime kickoffs locked in: Wisconsin on September 6, Michigan State on September 19, Miami on November 7, and SMU on November 21. And that list could grow. With five other games still unassigned, it’s entirely possible that half of Notre Dame’s season will be played in the evening glow of national television.

Combine that with the Irish’s strong position in the College Football Playoff race — even an above-average season should secure a spot — and 2026 is shaping up to be a fan-friendly year. Yes, there’s that one Peacock-exclusive hurdle, but the rest of the schedule offers plenty of reasons to tune in without a second thought.

For now, Notre Dame supporters can mark their calendars for a streaming-only road game in 2026. The exact opponent remains a mystery, but the countdown has begun. And with the Irish’s national brand, you can bet that Peacock will make sure it’s a matchup worth logging in for.
