The Green Bay Packers are facing a troubling offseason development as star running back Josh Jacobs was arrested Tuesday night on five disturbing charges, including domestic abuse-related offenses. The Hobart-Lawrence Police Department confirmed the arrest, and the NFL has been notified and is in contact with the team.

Jacobs, a three-time Pro Bowler who joined the Packers in 2024, is facing counts of battery (domestic abuse), criminal damage to property (domestic abuse), disorderly conduct (domestic abuse), strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Wisconsin, though details remain limited as the investigation unfolds.

Legal Team Responds

Jacobs' attorneys were quick to push back against the allegations. In a statement released Tuesday night, they said, “Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of this investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public. We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course.”

This is not the first time a high-profile athlete has faced legal trouble. The situation echoes the recent WWE star Ludwig Kaiser arrest, which also involved domestic-related charges and a swift denial from the accused.

What This Means for the Packers

Jacobs is under contract with Green Bay for two more seasons, carrying a base salary of $10.2 million this year. He was a key piece of the Packers' offense in 2024, rushing for 929 yards and adding 282 receiving yards with 14 total touchdowns. In 2023, he topped 1,300 rushing yards under head coach Matt LaFleur.

If Jacobs faces a suspension or misses significant time, the Packers will need to lean on their backup running backs. Chris Brooks, MarShawn Lloyd, and Pierre Strong Jr. are the primary options on the roster. Last season's primary backup, Emmanuel Wilson, signed with the Seattle Seahawks in free agency, leaving a gap in the depth chart.

The Packers have not yet issued a statement on the arrest, but the NFL's personal conduct policy could lead to a suspension regardless of the legal outcome. The team may also explore adding a veteran running back in free agency or the draft as a contingency.

Looking Ahead

For now, the focus remains on the legal process. Jacobs is scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks, and more details are expected to emerge. The Packers and their fans will be watching closely as this story develops.

This isn't the first time a Packers player has made headlines off the field. Recently, Jerry Rice's son got another NFL shot after the Packers claimed him off waivers, a much more positive story for the franchise.
