The atmosphere in Oxford is electric, and it's not just because of the top-10 showdown brewing between LSU and Ole Miss. When ESPN's College GameDay rolled into town, the crowd made it crystal clear how they feel about the man who left them behind: Lane Kiffin.
As the show went live Saturday morning, the raucous Rebels faithful unleashed a chant that was as explicit as it was unmistakable. The F-bomb-laced serenade aimed at Kiffin echoed through the set, and even Pat McAfee, never one to shy away from chaos, had to pause as the crowd's message came through loud and clear.
Kiffin, of course, is no stranger to villain roles. After bolting Oxford in 2025 just before the College Football Playoff, he inked a massive seven-year, $91 million deal with LSU, leaving Pete Golding to take over the Rebels. Now, with the Tigers visiting Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, the bad blood is boiling over.
McAfee, ever the showman, couldn't resist adding fuel to the fire. "Lane Kiffin hopped in a truck and went right down to Baton Rouge," he said. "Now he hopped in a couple of trucks to come back here to Oxford for this Week 3 matchup."
The tension isn't just in the stands. According to Chris Low of On3, Kiffin has made it clear he wants to embarrass the Ole Miss program this weekend. But in true Kiffin fashion, he's flipping the script on the pressure.
"I told the players today, 'Man, you don't have anything to worry about as far as attention on you all week and everything,'" Kiffin said. "There's going to be so much attention, hatred, everything on me. You just get to go play. The pressure is on them. We won seven games last year, they won 13."
While Kiffin thrives on the hate, some have taken things too far. Ole Miss fans have crossed the line by targeting Kiffin's daughter, with Landry Kiffin slamming inappropriate banners ahead of the clash. The chant, though crude, is at least aimed at the coach himself.
Regardless, the stage is set for a primetime battle. With kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, the SEC rivalry is about to explode. Will Kiffin get the last laugh, or will the Rebels send him back to Baton Rouge with a loss and a chorus of boos ringing in his ears? One thing's for sure: Oxford is ready to make some noise.
