Ohio State's spring practice just got a little more complicated for one of its most promising newcomers. Freshman running back Legend Bey has been suspended for the initial days of spring workouts after violating team rules, head coach Ryan Day confirmed Thursday.
Bey, a four-star recruit from North Forney High School in Texas, arrived in Columbus with high expectations. He was a dual-threat quarterback in high school, amassing 1,341 passing yards and 1,626 rushing yards during his senior season. His versatility has the Buckeyes' coaching staff excited about his potential in their offensive scheme.
Day told Lettermen Row that Bey's absence is a learning opportunity for the young back.
“He won’t practice the first couple days,” Day said. “Got a little violation of team rules, so he’s learning, but he’ll be back on the field soon.”
While the suspension is a bump in the road, Ohio State's running back room is far from thin. The Buckeyes boast one of the most dynamic backs in the country in sophomore Bo Jackson, who rushed for 1,090 yards and six touchdowns on 179 carries in 2025. He also proved reliable in the passing game, catching 19 passes for 200 yards and a score.
Jackson's production gives Ohio State a proven workhorse, and the team's depth ensures that Bey's absence won't derail their preparations for the season opener against Ball State on Sept. 5.
Bey's suspension echoes the recent loyalty of Ohio State stars, who have stayed committed despite outside temptations. It also highlights the high standards Day expects from his players, a philosophy that has kept the program among the nation's elite.
As spring practices roll on, all eyes will be on Bey's return and whether he can translate his high school brilliance to the college stage. For now, the Buckeyes are focused on building chemistry and staying disciplined as they chase a national title.
