The football world is sending a wave of support to former NFL lineman and ESPN analyst Damien Woody after he revealed a serious health scare on Sunday night. Woody, 48, shared that he had been hospitalized and underwent surgery to remove his appendix and part of his colon.

In a heartfelt social media post, Woody urged everyone to prioritize their health. “Want to give folks a health update…had a colonoscopy and from that have been hospitalized having had my appendix and part of my colon removed,” he wrote. “I want to thank all the doctors and nurses at Morristown Medical Center for the tremendous care I received. For the masses….please get your checkups! Life is too short and too precious.”

Tracy Wolfson's Bold Sideline Look Sparks Fan Frenzy at 51
Tracy Wolfson, 51, went viral Sunday for her stylish white outfit on the Raiders-Bills sideline, drawing cheers from fans and a bit of controversy over a halftime interview.

The response from fans and fellow sports figures was immediate and emotional. ESPN's Malika Andrews posted, “Wishing you a speedy and comfortable recovery 🤎,” while colleague Stephania Bell added, “Teammate!! Sending you a giant hug, all the love and strength ❤️🙏.” Basketball legend Isiah Thomas also chimed in, writing, “Sending love ❤️ and prayers.”

Fans shared their own stories of similar surgeries, offering encouragement. One wrote, “I had my appendix removed on ‘97. Woke up that Sunday morning, I couldn’t go to church. My younger brother kept calling my mom at church telling her how sick I was. Rushed into emergency surgery to remove my appendix. God bless you D woody, really good man and person. 🙏.” Another simply said, “Awww Bishop!!! Wishing you a speedy recovery! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾.”

Woody's career in football was impressive. He played from 1999 to 2010, winning two Super Bowls as a member of the New England Patriots and later playing for the Detroit Lions and New York Jets. After retiring, he joined ESPN in 2011, becoming a familiar face on NFL analysis shows. However, his contract was not renewed earlier this year, a move that prompted a reflective response from Woody.

“Still processing it all but I want to thank all of my colleagues at ESPN who made it a joy to talk ball for 15 yrs,” he tweeted at the time. “Being a guy who had a serious speech impediment to working on tv was truly one of my proudest accomplishments. Looking forward to what God has in store for me next!”

Woody's openness about his health struggles has resonated with many, especially in a community that often focuses on the physical toll of the game. His message is a reminder that even the toughest among us need to listen to their bodies and get regular checkups.

As he recovers, the outpouring of love from fans and colleagues shows the deep respect they have for him, both as a player and as a broadcaster. Mahomes' private message to a grieving Chiefs analyst earlier this year highlighted the tight-knit nature of the NFL family, and Woody is now experiencing that same support.

We join the chorus of well-wishers in hoping for a full and speedy recovery for Damien Woody. Get well soon, big fella.
