When news broke that a biopic about legendary NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden was in the works, with Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale attached, football fans were buzzing. But recent developments have cast a shadow over the project, and the excitement is starting to sour.
The David O. Russell-directed film, slated for a November 18 release, will skip theaters entirely and debut exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. For many, that's a major red flag. Streaming-only releases have built a reputation for being a dumping ground for projects that studios don't believe can compete at the box office.
