Kai Trump is a freshman on the University of Miami women's golf team, but her weekends look a lot different from the typical college student's. Instead of hitting the bars or exploring South Beach, she's been packing up and heading home—every single weekend this fall.
In a new YouTube vlog, the 19-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump opened up about her routine. "I've been at home every single weekend. It's so close. Only an hour and 20 minutes away," she said. Her family lives in Florida, making the trip a quick one.
For Kai, the decision is simple. "It makes sense. Especially the weekend, like, if I really have nothing to do," she explained. "And honestly, being a college athlete, I'm so tired because the whole day, I'm grinding. I'm working out, I'm playing golf, and then I have classes."
She added, "So, like, when I go home, I feel like it's just like vacation." That vacation feeling is a welcome break from the demands of Division I athletics and a full course load.
Kai has made it clear she's not in Miami to party. "I feel like I haven't really explored Miami yet because I'm so busy with the golf and stuff like that. I'm here for golf. I'm not here to party in Miami so I guess it's okay," she said earlier this month. "College life is fun. When you're a student-athlete, that makes it hard to be honest with you."
Her focus on golf isn't surprising. Kai committed to the Hurricanes as a junior at The Benjamin School in Florida, and she's been grinding ever since. The chance to play close to home was a big draw, and now she's taking full advantage of it.
While her weekends at home might raise eyebrows, they seem to be working for her. Balancing a rigorous golf schedule, workouts, and classes is no joke, and the downtime with family appears to be her secret weapon. It's a reminder that even big-name student-athletes need a support system—and sometimes that means a short drive home.
Kai's approach may not be the traditional college experience, but it's hers. And as she navigates her first year at Miami, she's proving that success on the course and in the classroom can come in many forms. For now, she's happy to trade Saturday nights on campus for quiet weekends with loved ones.
As the fall season rolls on, Kai Trump will keep doing what works for her—grinding during the week and recharging at home on weekends. It's a strategy that seems to be paying off, both for her game and her well-being.
