Kai Trump, the 19-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump, made it crystal clear at this week's ESPYS: politics isn't her lane. Speaking with Sportico at the Lincoln Center in New York City, the rising University of Miami golfer shared her mindset as she gears up for her freshman year with the Hurricanes.

“Honestly, I kind of stay out of politics completely – it’s just not my thing,” Trump said. She did note that attending a recent UFC event tied to America 250 celebrations was a cool experience, especially with veterans in the stands, but she's not looking to mix politics with her athletic journey.

WNBA Boss Cathy Engelbert's Golf Game Hits New Low, Ties Ray Romano at Celebrity Event
WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert finished tied for 86th at the American Century Championship with a score of -54, tying actor Ray Romano. The poor performance comes amid league scrutiny and a radio no-show that drew sharp criticism.

That's a refreshing take from someone whose last name is synonymous with the White House. Instead, Trump is laser-focused on her golf game and using her platform to uplift young female athletes. She's already made waves by committing to the University of Miami and making her LPGA Tour debut at The Annika in 2025, where she shot a 13-over 83 in the opening round but walked away with a smile.

“I was definitely more nervous than I expected, but I thought I hit a lot of great shots out there,” she told reporters. “I hit a lot of good shots just to the wrong spots. … Felt like my game is in a good spot, and especially only being a senior in high school.”

Trump's focus on inspiring the next generation is part of a broader trend in women's sports, where high school athletes like her and Charlie Woods are dominating NIL valuations. Her own NIL valuation is reportedly $2.25 million, a testament to her growing brand as both a golfer and social media influencer.

When she announced her commitment to Miami, Trump posted a heartfelt message on Instagram thanking her family, coaches, and especially her grandfather for giving her access to great courses and support. “I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Miami,” she wrote. “I am super excited to be a cane and represent the University of Miami. Gooo Canes.”

With her freshman year on the horizon, Trump is determined to elevate her game and her brand. She's not shying away from the spotlight, but she's keeping her eyes on the fairway, not the political aisle. As she put it, her goal is simple: inspire young female golfers to chase their dreams, no matter their last name.
