Just weeks after CBS parted ways with Tony Romo, his former broadcast partner Jim Nantz is speaking out about what the future holds for the ex-quarterback. And Nantz is confident Romo's broadcasting career isn't over.

Romo was placed on leave before Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season following a July arrest in Wisconsin on charges of unsafe passing, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and possessing open intoxicants. CBS officially cut ties with Romo on Oct. 2, paving the way for J.J. Watt to step in as the network's lead color analyst.

Cardinals Eyeing Rookie QB Beck as Midseason Switch Looms
Arizona Cardinals are reportedly planning a midseason quarterback change, with rookie Carson Beck expected to eventually replace Jacoby Brissett, possibly by late November.

In a statement, Romo expressed gratitude for his nine-year run at CBS Sports, saying, "I approached my role as a game analyst the way I've approached everything in my life–with a desire to win and be the best that I can be." He added that he plans to take a break, focus on his health and family, and then pursue his next opportunity.

Appearing on Jimmy Traina's podcast this week, Nantz weighed in on Romo's future. "I think unquestionably he will work again," Nantz said. "I don't know if it's calling games or being in studio, but he's got a lot of talent. He's got a lot of people who like him, and he's a star."

Nantz highlighted Romo's unique personality as an asset, saying, "He's got a personality that's different, and that's a good thing." He added that while he isn't sure where Romo's head is at right now, there will be "plenty of opportunity" for him because "he's got game."

Nantz even floated the possibility of Romo taking on a studio role when he returns, a scenario that has already sparked speculation. Sam Neumann of Awful Announcing has mentioned Romo as a potential replacement for Terry Bradshaw on Fox NFL Sunday, though Bradshaw hasn't announced any retirement plans.

Romo's departure from CBS has left a void in the booth, but Nantz and Watt have moved on, with the duo set to call a Chiefs-Raiders clash in Sin City. Fans, however, have been vocal about missing Romo's energetic style, with some even begging for his return after a recent broadcast blunder by Nantz and Watt.

For now, Romo is taking time away from the spotlight, but if Nantz's prediction holds true, it won't be long before he's back on air. Whether it's in the booth or the studio, Romo's next chapter is sure to be watched closely by fans and colleagues alike.
