Landry Shamet is having the kind of summer most athletes only dream about. Just weeks after helping the New York Knicks capture their first NBA championship in over five decades, the veteran guard added another piece of jewelry—this time, an engagement ring.
Shamet and Cameron Aimonetti announced their engagement Wednesday night with a series of romantic photos from a boat on Lake Como, Italy. One image shows Shamet sliding a ring onto Aimonetti's finger, while others capture the couple celebrating against the stunning Italian backdrop.
“Best day ever,” Aimonetti wrote on Instagram, where they shared multiple snapshots from the special occasion.
From Sixth Man to Champion
Shamet’s path to this moment was anything but easy. The 6-foot-4 guard, selected 26th overall in the 2018 draft, played for five different teams before landing in New York during the 2024-25 season. Under former coach Tom Thibodeau, he averaged just 5.7 points in 50 games off the bench.
But when Mike Brown took over as head coach, Shamet’s role expanded dramatically. He played 23 minutes per game during the regular season, started a dozen games, and then caught fire in the playoffs. Shamet knocked down 29 of 61 three-point attempts in the postseason, including four triples apiece in series-clinching wins over the 76ers and Cavaliers. He also scored 13 points in the first two games of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.
His breakout performance earned him a new four-year deal to remain in New York, where the Knicks return most of their championship core—though they did lose fan favorite Mitchell Robinson to the Celtics in free agency.
A Love Story Years in the Making
Shamet and Aimonetti, a New York real estate agent, were first spotted together at the 2019 ESPYs, though the couple has kept their relationship largely private. After the Knicks clinched the title last month, Aimonetti posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.
“Nothing (I truly mean nothing) was going to stop you from getting here and seeing this through,” she wrote on June 16. “The mental strength and discipline it took to reach this moment is hard to put into words…You’ve earned every bit of this. What a journey. World champion.”
Now, with a championship ring on one hand and an engagement ring on the other, Shamet enters the offseason with more than just a new contract. He’s got a future bride—and a legacy cemented in Knicks history.
