The Los Angeles Rams are getting a major weapon back this Sunday as Puka Nacua suits up against the Philadelphia Eagles. Fantasy football managers everywhere are celebrating, but a cloud of suspicion still hangs over his early-season absence.
Nacua, who exploded onto the scene last year with 1,715 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, played in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. Then, he sat out the next two games against the New York Giants and Denver Broncos, officially listed with a hip injury.
Despite the team's explanation, a vocal chunk of the NFL fanbase isn't buying it. They're convinced Nacua was quietly serving a suspension for an alleged incident during the 2026 offseason, when he was accused of biting a woman and engaging in threatening, violent, and harassing conduct on December 31, 2025.
The allegations, first reported by TMZ, are serious. The woman claims that after a meal, Nacua became inappropriate in a Sprinter van, eventually dropping his head into her friend's lap and biting her thumb so hard she screamed, before turning and biting her shoulder hard enough to break skin. She included a photo of the injury in her temporary restraining order application.
This week, the rumor mill went into overdrive when the Rams posted a practice video showing Nacua moving with surprising ease for someone nursing a hip injury. Social media lit up with fans declaring the "silent suspension" over.
"Silent suspension is over! Lets balll," one fan wrote on X.
"Extension before Sunday would make that very clear lol," another added.
Not everyone is convinced. "Theory doesn't make sense," argued one skeptic. "Why would they play him Week 1? What evidence suggests he had a 'silent suspension' or that kind of thing exists?"
Another fan doubled down: "No doubt that this was a silent suspension by the Rams for his offseason biting incident. Wouldn't be surprised if they made a deal with the NFL that he would be held out two games so he wouldn't be formally suspended by the league. He's fine! Let's roll Puka!!!!"
Of course, there's zero proof of any behind-the-scenes arrangement. The Rams have stuck to the injury story, and after Friday's practice, head coach Sean McVay offered an encouraging update.
"He's looked really good," McVay said. "Physically, he's getting in and out of his brakes. Looks strong. Looks sturdy. Looks explosive. … He looks ready to go."
Nacua himself said he's "feeling the urge" to get back on the field with his teammates. And with the Eagles coming to town in what's expected to be one of the hottest games in NFL history, the Rams will need all the firepower they can get.
While the silent suspension theory remains just that—a theory—the timing of Nacua's return and his sudden burst of health has only fueled the speculation. Whether it was a hip injury or something more, one thing is certain: the NFL world will be watching closely on Sunday.
