Hurts, who led the Eagles to a Super Bowl title, has been facing a wave of criticism this offseason. After Philadelphia's offense ranked 19th in scoring at 22.3 points per game in 2025, questions about Hurts' willingness to adapt have dominated headlines. A recent ESPN report cited anonymous team sources claiming Hurts has pushed back on diversifying the offensive scheme, showing reluctance to go under center or attack the middle of the field against zone coverage. The report also suggested he changes playcalls more than coaches would like, limiting the offense's growth.
Given that context, the timing of the Eagles' social media post couldn't have been worse. There is some good news for Hurts amid the noise. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio praised his speed at camp, saying, "I think Jalen's having a good camp. I think he looks faster. Obviously we can't touch him during practice so there's always that debate whether you had him or not [for a sack] and I think there's been a few times where our guys think they had him and they really didn't."
While one interception in a practice drill doesn't erase Hurts' track record, it does add fuel to the fire of his critics. The Eagles' social media team may have intended to showcase Mitchell's ball skills, but the optics were poor—especially with Hurts already under a microscope.
