The quarterback carousel just took another spin. Quinn Ewers, the former Texas Longhorns standout who spent his rookie season with the Miami Dolphins, is packing his bags for Jacksonville. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have dealt Ewers to the Jaguars in exchange for a swap of Day 3 picks in the 2028 NFL Draft.
“Jaguars and Dolphins are swapping 2028 day 3 picks in exchange for QB Quinn Ewers, per source,” Schefter posted on X.
Ewers, who entered the league as a highly touted prospect out of Texas, saw limited action in Miami during the 2025 campaign. He appeared in four games, starting three, and finished with a 1-2 record as a starter. His first career start came in a lopsided 45-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he threw for 260 yards but was picked off twice. He bounced back the next week, leading the Dolphins to a 20-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with 172 yards and two touchdowns. However, he closed the season on a sour note, throwing for just 137 yards and a pick in a 38-10 defeat to the New England Patriots.
The move comes as Miami undergoes a rebuild under new leadership, with Malik Willis taking the reins under center. With Ewers no longer fitting into their plans, the front office opted to move on, sending him to a Jacksonville squad that has been searching for stability at the quarterback position.
For Ewers, this trade represents a fresh start. The Texas product was a star in college, leading the Longhorns to a Big 12 title in 2023 and guiding them to two College Football Playoff appearances. In his final season in Austin, he started all 14 games, completing 65.8% of his passes for 3,472 yards and a conference-best 31 touchdowns. He also etched his name into the Texas record books, finishing third all-time in both passing yards (9,128) and touchdown passes (68).
Now, Ewers will look to revive his NFL career in Jacksonville, where he'll compete for playing time behind Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars, who have struggled to find consistent production, could offer Ewers a genuine opportunity to earn snaps.
