Boston sports fans are heartbroken after learning that Christopher Gasper, the longtime Boston Globe columnist and 98.5 The Sports Hub radio host, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Gasper shared the news Tuesday, revealing that he’ll undergo surgery to address the disease.

Gasper, a fixture in New England sports media for over two decades, wrote on social media that he was diagnosed before the 2025 Patriots season but chose to cover the entire campaign before revisiting treatment options. Recent scans showed additional cancerous areas, prompting the need for surgery.

Browns GM: Trading Myles Garrett Was a 'Too Great' Opportunity to Miss
Browns GM Andrew Berry says trading Myles Garrett to the Rams for Jared Verse and multiple picks was an opportunity too great to pass up, ensuring the defense remains elite.

“My prognosis is encouraging, and, hopefully, I’ll see you on the flip side,” Gasper wrote. “Then you can resume telling me how misguided you feel I am in the views I express about sports. I am really looking forward to that normalcy.”

The news has hit the Boston sports community hard. Gasper is known for his sharp analysis and passionate takes on the Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox, and he has built a loyal following over the years. Many fans have expressed their devastation and hope for his recovery on social media.

Colleagues from across the sports media landscape have also rallied around Gasper. Jemele Hill offered prayers and support, while Albert Breer called him “one of the best people I know in our business, and one of my best friends.” Alex Barth, another local reporter, said he’s looking forward to seeing Gasper back at Gillette Stadium and in the studio.

Gasper’s journey has been marked by resilience. He joined the Boston Globe in 2001 and later became a key voice on 98.5 The Sports Hub, where his segments are a staple for Patriots fans. His decision to keep working through treatment has drawn admiration from many, especially as the Patriots navigate a pivotal offseason under vrabel's full-throttle focus on a 2026 title run.

“Over the last 10 months, I’ve been absolutely blown away by how he’s handled this, and continued to work at such a high level,” Breer wrote. “We’re all praying for him, but he’s got this. I know that.”

Gasper thanked his family, friends, and the medical teams at Boston Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital for their support. He emphasized that his long-term health outlook is strong, and he’s determined to return to the airwaves and columns that fans have come to love.

For now, the Boston sports world is holding its breath, sending prayers, and counting the days until Gasper’s familiar voice returns. As one fan put it, “We need you back, Chris. The takes won’t be the same without you.”
